Winner of eight World Series of Poker bracelets and one World Poker Tour title, Phil Ivey is one of poker’s best known faces without a doubt. The Full Tilt Poker sponsored player, was born in California, grew up in New Jersey and lives in Las Vegas.
He began playing poker with some friends at the age of 18, while working in a telemarketing company in New Brunswick. One of his first nicknames was “No Home Jerome.” The second one, for which he is best known, is ‘the Tiger Woods of Poker’, in reference to his great skill, concentration and success in the game.
Besides poker, his other hobbies include basketball, being a fan of Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets. He also enjoys sports betting and golf. It is rumored that because of his first two hobbies, last year lost $ 2,000,000 in the NBA Finals when he went for the Lakers. And in the past, attended the inauguration of the World Series of Golf, where he finished third.

At the age of 33 he is the youngest player to ever win eight World Series of Poker bracelets (Phil Hellmuth was 39). He also did it fast! No other player has accumulated eight bracelets more quickly; it took Ivey only ten years from the time of his first bracelet to his eighth. He is also the all-time record holder for most bracelets won in non-Holdem events, with all 8 of his victories coming in non-Holdem events.

But let’s face, most of us don’t play like Ivey, many don’t even know the Omaha Holdem rules. So it is very important, before we start to play, to read some articles on how to play and tips to play better. Also practice is a great way to improve our skills and we can do it either on line, or with friends, just as Phil Ivey started…who says the next “Tiger Woods” of poker is couldn’t be one of you.
